Chair congratulates PCC on re-election

Gwent Police Federation chair Steve Thorpe has congratulated Jeff Cuthbert after he was re-elected for a second term as the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner.

Steve said he was looking forward to continuing to work with Mr Cuthbert on the key issues facing officers.

“On behalf of Gwent Police Federation, I would like to congratulate Mr Cuthbert on his re-election as our PCC. I am sure we will be meeting in the near future so I look forward to hearing his plans for his terms in office and sharing with him our members’ concerns.”

Mr Cuthbert has emphasised the importance of the police budget and said it was “something we are looking at very seriously indeed”.

Speaking after his re-election he said:  “If I don’t make sure that the Chief Constable has enough money for operational purposes then we’ve got a problem.”

Mr Cuthbert said the campaign had been “difficult” because of  Covid restrictions and it had “very much been an internet campaign”.

He said: “I am delighted to be able to serve Gwent as Police and Crime Commissioner for another term and would like to sincerely thank everyone who took the time to vote in the election.

“It’s been quite a tough fight but I’m very glad, very proud to be re-elected.”

“I am here to serve all the people in Gwent and that will continue”.
