Buy a raffle ticket and help our retired police dogs

Gwent Police Federation members could be in with the chance of winning a delicious graze box thanks to a raffle being hosted by the Retired Police Dogs of Gwent.

Tickets for the raffle cost £2 but be quick, you need to buy yours by tomorrow (Friday 11 February), with a yummy graze box and a £50 JTAC K9 voucher up for grabs.

The money raised will all be put towards Retired Police Dogs of Gwent, an organisation that was set up last year, having been co-founded by Federation member Andy North.

Andy North and PD Noah.

The fund-raising group aims to help give former police dogs a more comfortable retirement by financially supporting them in emergency situations, for example, sudden medical procedures or routine check-ups.

Andy, who has been a dog handler for the past 14 years, said: “These dogs give the best years of their lives to protecting the public, they deserved to be looked after.

“The last thing we want is for these dogs to retire in ill-health. They sometimes need urgent veterinary support and that’s why this group is here.”

Andy, who has spent the past 22 years in the Force, helped launch the group to support families who look after retired police dogs with any unexpected financial burdens.

“Officers get support when they retire, we think the dogs should have the same,” said Andy.

Throughout the year, there will be a number of fund-raising activities taking place to bring in cash for the group.

Family-run business JTAC K9, which specialises in tactical K9 equipment, along with local organisation Made to Graze which creates beautiful graze boxes, have both donated prizes for the latest raffle.
